9. Funnel-shaped cavities (Pingen) and heaps

In the wood, numerous so-called “Pingen” (funnel-shaped cavities) are visible. They are typical for abandoned, old mining areas and their development can have different causes: They arose either after the overlying rock of the gallery being near the surface had caved in, or after former shafts had collapsed. They can also be found close to entanglements used in the surface mining, that led to the vein. Furthermore, they prove that there were several other shafts in the mining area “Lingelelöcher” apart from the still open three shafts. Collapsed shafts and surface mining mostly have a heap consisting of waste rock and vein material on the slope or around the funnel-shaped cavities. The funnel-shaped cavities are lined up as a string of pearls and show indirectly the course of the veins in the field.

Kindly pay attention to the fact that the access to these funnel-shaped cavities is life-threatening, since the setting in the centre of these cavities is still in progress.
